Who Am I?
Degreed with a BA in Bible & a Minor in Greek
My degree comes from Cedarville University in Ohio. I have spent time as an Educator in the private school system and served in various churches in many positions. I have always taught in church and am presently teaching in a mega-church in Memphis, TN.
I trusted Christ as my Lord and Savior when I was 18 years old. Although I have often failed Him in my walk through more than 50 years with Him, He has never failed me. And He never will, because that’s a promise of Scripture. It took me many years as a Christian to truly love the Lord. I spent way too much time in serving without loving. It was in the later part of my life that God showed me how to love Him. Believe me, it doesn’t get any better than that.
I am married with 2 grown children and 6 grandchildren. My daughter is a homemaker in Chattanooga and my son lives at home with us. My wife and I just celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary. She is still the love of my life!

Through the Bible . . . as It Happened Was 40 Years in the Making
I began work on Through the Bible . . . as It Happened in 1974 out of a realization that many Christians (maybe most) were just not getting very much out of their daily Bible reading time. I felt they needed a new way to approach the Bible, one that let the Bible make more sense to them. My idea was to organize the Bible in a chronological fashion. There were no books which did that in print at the time.
So, I started the Herculean task all by myself. The initial version was crude when compared to today’s final result . . . but it was a start. I printed the booklets on our church’s mimeograph machine (remember those?). That first version had only the reading schedule and some small basic book summaries on each book of the Bible.
Over the next 40+ years, as I read through the Bible myself this way, I refined and refined . . . and refined . . . the reading schedule, reworking the order of the daily Bible readings. I also realized that so many parts of the Bible text were far above the reach of the average layman and some solid informational notes would add to the value of the booklets.
So, as I read, I jotted down my thoughts as God gave them to me. In my reading of other peoples’ material (commentaries, devotionals, textbooks, study books), the Lord gave me many important insights into the Biblical text. Adding my degree from college to that, and the daily inspirational thoughts the Lord was giving me, the readings began to take on a very valuable form.
But there had to be a place where enough material had been added to end the effort. I made the final completed version in 2018. It is, I believe, the finest comprehensive approach to the Bible in existence today. The finished quality of Through the Bible . . . as It Happened is superb. I believe Christians ought to do the very best in what they do and leave no place for anyone to criticize the quality of their work. I believe I have done that for you in this product.
I can tell you from experience, because I read through the Bible each year myself (using this reading program) that if I hadn’t written this program and I saw it available on the bookshelves, I would get it for myself. More than any other single source in my Christian life, this has helped me to grow personally into the kind of Christian God wants me to be.
